Jammu, July 13: Theatre group RANGYUG on Monday organised a seminar-cum-theatre workshop for students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Gandhi Nagar, marking the expansion of its theatre education initiative from colleges to schools across Jammu and Kashmir.

The workshop, conducted under the guidance of RANGYUG Director Deepak Kumar, brought together 40 students for an interactive programme designed to promote creativity, communication skills, confidence and holistic personality development through theatre-based learning.

Participants received practical training in the fundamentals of theatre, including voice and speech, body language, stage movement, improvisation, characterisation and creative expression. The workshop featured theatre games, group activities and experiential learning exercises aimed at helping students overcome stage fear, improve communication, develop teamwork and enhance self-confidence.

RANGYUG said the initiative builds upon its longstanding engagement with colleges and higher educational institutions, where it has conducted theatre workshops, internships and collaborative academic programmes. The latest programme marks a significant step towards introducing theatre-based learning to younger students.

Addressing the participants, Deepak Kumar said education should extend beyond textbooks and classrooms, describing theatre as an effective medium for developing creativity, confidence, empathy and life skills.

“Theatre is not merely about acting; it is about learning through experience. It enables children to communicate confidently, think creatively, work collaboratively and develop empathy—qualities that are central to the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020,” he said, adding that RANGYUG aims to make theatre an integral part of school education.

Principal of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Akash Gupta, appreciated the initiative and said such workshops provide students with valuable opportunities to strengthen communication skills, creativity, leadership qualities and self-confidence.

RANGYUG said the workshop reaffirmed its commitment to promoting theatre as an educational tool in line with the objectives of NEP 2020 and making quality theatre education accessible to school students across Jammu and Kashmir.
