Radicalization a “Grave Threat” to Peace, National Unity : DIG North Kashmir

Calls for public cooperation to identify and prevent extremist influence

Baramulla, Jan 19: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for North Kashmir Range, Maqsood-ul-Zamaan, issued a stark warning on Monday, stating that radicalization presents a direct and serious danger to regional peace, social harmony, and national unity.

In a statement circulated on the social media platform X, DIG Maqsood-ul-Zamaan as per Kashmir Convener stressed the urgent need for community cooperation to detect and counter extremist influences at their earliest stages.

The post highlighted contained a clear message: “Radicalization threatens peace and unity. Together, we can stop it before it starts.”

The senior police official outlined several key behavioral indicators to help the public identify potential radicalization and urged families and community leaders to maintain heightened vigilance.

He listed warning signs including the adoption of extreme views characterized by intolerance or hate speech, withdrawal from established social circles, abrupt shifts in personal behavior or ideology, and an excessive preoccupation with violent extremist propaganda.

Emphasizing civic duty, the DIG underscored the importance of promptly reporting any such concerning behavior to authorities. “Vigilance is our first line of defense,” the statement noted. It concluded with an appeal for collective action: “Help build a safer, united society.”
