Pulwama, May 21: Continuing its crackdown on traffic violations and unsafe driving practices, the District Administration Pulwama, under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Pulwama, conducted a special traffic enforcement drive near the Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Tahab Road for the third consecutive day.
The enforcement team inspected over 60 vehicles during the drive, of which 30 were found violating the Motor Vehicles Act and were subsequently e-challaned. Officials estimated the total penalty from these e-challans to be around Rs 59,500.
Officials stated that the drive aimed to ensure strict adherence to road safety regulations, especially in sensitive zones such as school areas. They added that such operations form part of a sustained campaign to promote road discipline, instill a sense of responsibility among motorists, and reduce the risk of road accidents.
In a related operation on Tuesday, prompted by complaints regarding commercial vehicles blocking the school gate and its vicinity, the ARTO Enforcement Team carried out an intensive checking operation on the Pulwama-Tahab Road. A total of 50 vehicles were inspected during the drive, leading to 28 e-challans issued for various traffic violations. The penalty amount from this round of enforcement is estimated at Rs 38,000.
Officials reiterated that these enforcement actions underscore the administration’s commitment to maintaining traffic order and ensuring the safety of commuters, particularly in school zones. The ARTO Pulwama has affirmed that similar drives will continue in the days ahead and urged the general public to cooperate by following traffic norms diligently.
