Baramulla, Jan 22: Emphasising the critical need for public cooperation and heightened cyber vigilance, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of North Kashmir Range, Maqsood-ul-Zaman (IPS), on Thursday emphasized on the critical need for public cooperation and heightened cyber vigilance while outlining a multi-layered security strategy to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations in the North Kashmir.
Presiding over a high-level multi-agency security review meeting at the District Police Lines, DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman as per Kashmir Convener asserted that while operational synergy among forces is indispensable, the “vital role of public cooperation in the security architecture” cannot be overstated.
“We urge citizens to maintain a high state of community vigilance, promptly report any suspicious activity, and extend their full support to the security forces,” the DIG stated, framing public participation as a cornerstone of the security plan.
The meeting, attended by senior officers from the Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB, Intelligence Bureau, CID, and district police, among others, focused on pre-emptive measures and seamless coordination.
According to officials, a significant portion of the deliberations addressed emerging challenges, with DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman highlighting the need for “close monitoring of social media and VPN usage.” Officials present indicated this move is aimed at tracking potential online mobilisation and encrypted communication that could be exploited by anti-national elements to disrupt law and order.
The protection of vital installations, minority communities, and Republic Day event venues was thoroughly reviewed. Plans for layered security, stringent access control, enhanced area domination, and surveillance of National Highways were refined.
The DIG as per this publication stressed that “operational synergy, joint drills, and real-time intelligence sharing” are non-negotiable for incident-free celebrations. All agencies reaffirmed their commitment to the “closest coordination” to safeguard the dignity of the national event.
The integrated strategy, spanning both physical and digital fronts, reflects a comprehensive approach to security in north Kashmir ahead of the national festivities.
