Bandipora, Oct 27: Supporters of Member of Parliament Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, held a protest at Nowgam in Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday evening, denouncing remarks made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that they said were “disrespectful and provocative.”

Witnesses said the demonstration began shortly after evening prayers, with scores of Ruhullah’s supporters gathering at the site, chanting slogans against the Chief Minister and expressing solidarity with their leader.

According to locals, the protesters accused Omar Abdullah of making statements that undermined the dignity of Aga Ruhullah, who represents Srinagar in the Parliament. “Our leader spoke for truth and for the people of Kashmir. Targeting him personally is unacceptable,” one of the protesters said.

Police personnel were deployed at the scene to maintain law and order. The protest, officials said, concluded peacefully without any untoward incident.

“The protest was peaceful and dispersed after some time. Additional personnel were deployed as a precautionary measure,” an official said. [KNT]
