Prof. Abdul Majid Conferred Prestigious Prof. Shridhar Sharma Psychiatry Education National Award 2026

Srinagar, Jan 31: Prof. Abdul Majid, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Sub-Dean at SKIMS Medical College, Srinagar, has been honored with the Prof. Shridhar Sharma Psychiatry Education National Award 2026 for his outstanding contribution to psychiatry education, research, and academic leadership spanning more than two decades.

The prestigious national award is conferred by the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), the country’s largest professional body of mental health experts with over 10,000 members. The award is given after a rigorous evaluation process by an expert panel following national-level nominations. Prof. Majid will be formally presented the award during the inaugural ceremony of the Annual Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society.

Prof. Majid has made remarkable contributions to psychiatry education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in addition to his significant research and administrative experience. His academic excellence and leadership have earned him wide recognition at the national level.

It is also noteworthy that Prof. Majid has recently been entrusted with the coveted position of National Vice President of the Indian Association of Biological Psychiatry (IABP)—a premier professional organization dedicated to advancing education, research, and clinical practice in biological psychiatry across India.

With over 500 eminent mental health professionals as members nationwide, IABP is known for organizing high-quality academic conferences, CMEs, workshops, and webinars aimed at continuing professional education and research advancement. Prof. Majid has earlier served successfully as the Honorary General Secretary of IABP from 2023 to 2025.

In addition, Prof. Abdul Majid is currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the National Journal of Geriatric Mental Health, the official publication of the Indian Association for Geriatric Mental Health, and is also a National Executive Council (EC) Member of the Indian Psychiatric Society.

The recognition marks a proud moment for the medical fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting Prof. Majid’s enduring commitment to excellence in mental health education and care.
