Bandipora, Feb 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department Monday restored grid connectivity to Gurez valley after the transmission mission line got a major fault due to heavy snowfall at Razdan pass earlier last month.

Deputy commissioner Bandipora in a tweet on X, informed that the 33kv Gurez -Bandipora line has been successfully restored after today after recent disruptions due to heavy snowfall enroute.

"The restoration has been made possible by untiring efforts of field warriors of PDD @KPDCLofficial despite facing harsh winter conditions and the toughest terrains".

Local residents while speaking with the Kashmir convener, on phone call said that the electricity had been restored today after recent disruption due to heavy snowfall.

"We are thankful to the Power development department, especially field workers who made it possible to restore the power supply to the region within days," Mohd Anwar, a local resident said.

Another local resident while gaining the efforts of the power development department and district Administration said that the employees of PDD were working on toes to restore power supply in the region.

He also said that the restoration of the 33 kv Bandipora-Gurez transmission line will provide locals relief in the harsh winter cold, when electricity is much needed to the region.

Notably after recent heavy snowfall which developed a major fault in the transmission line, the electricity was disconnected to the region, after that the valley was reverted to Gen sets.

After recent disruptions several criticisms were raised by locals that providing electricity to Gurez valley through terrains of Razdan pass will not be successful. The residents, while critiquing the disruptions earlier, demanded a small hydro power project for the region , saying it will be the way to provide electricity to the region.

However, the restoration of the 33KV Gurez-Bandipora transmission line is a big achievement to the Power Development Department, despite heavy snowfall at razdan pass which is 12000 feet above sea level the department had restored the electricity to the region within two weeks.

Partiently mention that the Gurez valley earlier got electricity from Diesel Generators, after which the valley recently got grid connectivity from Bandipora.
