PM SHRI Govt Secondary School Qazipora Organises Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse

Bandipora, Dec 27: PM SHRI Government High School Qazipora, Bandipora, on Saturday organized an extensive awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Its Legal, Social and Health Consequences with an aim of educating students about the rising threat of substance abuse and the need for collective responsibility to curb this social evil.
Advocate Shafeeq Bhat, Penal Lawyer with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora, attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
In his detailed address, he apprised the students about the serious legal implications of drug abuse and trafficking, particularly under the NDPS Act. He explained how even minor involvement can lead to severe punishment, long-term legal consequences, and irreversible damage to one’s future. He stressed that awareness and timely resistance to peer pressure are the strongest tools in preventing drug addiction.
The Head of Institution, Mr. Gh. Mohammad Malla, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the vital role of schools in shaping the moral and social values of students. He reiterated that educational institutions must go beyond academics and actively participate in awareness initiatives to safeguard the younger generation from social evils like drug abuse.
The programme was further enriched by Dr. Atiqullah, the Resource Person, who delivered an insightful lecture on the medical and psychological impact of drug addiction.
He explained how substance abuse adversely affects mental health, physical well-being, family life, and social harmony, urging students to adopt healthy lifestyles and seek help without hesitation.
A large number of students and teachers attended the programme and participated attentively. The session remained interactive, with students raising questions related to addiction, prevention, and legal consequences, which were addressed comprehensively by the speakers.
The programme concluded with a strong message of commitment towards building a drug-free society, emphasizing awareness, education, and coordinated efforts by institutions, parents, and society at large.
