Picnic turns into mourning: 11 students including 9 girls die in fatal road accident
Surankote, June 27, CNS: In a tragic road accident, at least 11 students including nine girls, died near Peer Ki Gali area on the historic Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.
A police official said a Tempo Traveler on way to Shopian from Poonch skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Lal Ghulam area, resulting into death of eleven passengers.
Among the slain are nine girls. The official said that the ill fated vehicle carrying the students of a private computer institute from Surnakote was heading towards Dhobijan for a picnic when the mishap took place.
The official said a rescue team immediately rushed to the spot. He said that five injured were rushed to SMHS hospital in Srinagar after initial treatment at district hospital Shopian. There condition is stated to be critical.
The official added that death toll may go up.
Governor Satya Pal Malik, former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, State Congress president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Engineer Rasheed, Shah Faisal, Sajad Lone and others expressed grief over this fatal road accident.
