PDP, NC Two Sides of the Same Coin, Accused of Stifling Common Kashmiris : Sunil Sharma
Srinagar, Oct 24: The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma, stated that National Conference is “suffering from mental agony” and has been communally founded since its inception in 1931.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener on the first day of the assembly session, Sharma launched a sharp critique of the National Conference, alleging it is a prisoner of a “pathological mindset” and its foundation is inherently “criminal and communal.”
Sharma claimed, “Their communalism began in 1931 with the ostracization of Kashmiri Pandits and the disrespect shown to mothers and daughters. They also targeted temples of the Hindu community.” He further accused the party of turning South Kashmir into a “bloodbath” following the hanging of Zulfikar Ali on April 4, 1979, and alleged that relatives of current members were involved in burning religious books and places.
Outlining his party’s role, Sharma affirmed that the opposition stands as the voice of the people. “We stand here as the voice of the youth, the elders, farmers, labourers, women, and the unemployed. In the coming days, we will raise this voice,” he declared.
Speaking about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sharma asserted that both the NC and PDP are “two sides of the same coin.” He alleged that their unity in forums like Gupkar and the Rajya Sabha is a strategic move to prevent the rise of any political force outside their two families. “They want to ensure that no common, poor person can emerge in politics,” he claimed.
He said that this alliance is reactive: “Whenever these two families feel a common, poor person might emerge, that is when they unite.”
Sharma further said day was dedicated to a tradition of remembering deceased former members. “There is a tradition here, particularly for those who have been part of this house, to offer obituary references and tributes on the first day of the session. No other business was conducted today,” he said.
