Bandipora, Jan 4: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday held a workers’ convention at Dak Bungalow, Sumbal, to finalise preparations for the January 7 programme marking the death anniversary of party founder and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, while also taking stock of political and developmental issues in the Sonawari constituency.
The meeting was convened by PDP Sonawari constituency in-charge and former MLC Yasir Reshi and was attended by senior party leaders and workers from across the area. Addressing the gathering, Yasir Reshi paid rich tributes to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, describing him as a visionary leader who laid the foundation of a people-centric political discourse in Jammu and Kashmir. He said Mufti’s vision of dignity, dialogue and democratic empowerment continues to guide the PDP’s political path and remains relevant even today.
District President Bandipora, Syed Sajad Hussain, also paid homage to the late leader and urged party cadres to uphold his legacy by standing firmly with the people and consistently raising their genuine issues at every forum. He stressed the importance of unity, grassroots strengthening and effective mobilisation to make the January 7 programme a meaningful tribute to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s life and ideals.
The meeting was attended by party spokesperson Syed Tajamul, North Kashmir State Secretary Mudasir Ahmad, DDC members Tahir-ul-Qadri, Dr Mustafa and Farjeel Ahmad, Block President Inayat Hajini, Bashir Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad, Peer Rayees, Altaf Ahmad, Shabir Hyder and several other senior workers.
During the convention, Yasir Reshi also launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC) MLA from Sonawari, accusing him of misleading the public with what he termed as “false claims” of development. Questioning the narrative of progress, Reshi asked, “Where is the development in Sonawari?” and urged people to judge the situation on the ground by examining the poor condition of basic infrastructure, including healthcare facilities and road connectivity.
He said tall claims of development were far removed from reality, as residents of the constituency continue to suffer due to the absence of essential amenities. Reshi further cautioned the local administration against allegedly harassing PDP workers at the behest of the MLA, warning that such actions would not be tolerated.
Expressing confidence in the present administration, the former MLC said he hoped officers would function honestly and independently without succumbing to political pressure. He asserted that dedicated officers would never allow injustice to be done to the people and appealed for fair, transparent and impartial governance in Sonawari.
The leaders present at the meeting reiterated PDP’s commitment to public welfare and pledged to continue working collectively to honour Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s legacy through sustained engagement with the people and by raising their concerns at every level.
