Bandipora, Jun 10: The district Hospital Bandipora has been grappling with a shortage of ophthalmologists and anesthesia doctors for several months, causing significant disruptions to the smooth functioning of these crucial departments.

The lack of medical professionals in these two departments has left the number of patients in distress and compromised their access to timely and quality care

The ophthalmology department, responsible for diagnosing and treating eye disorders and diseases, is currently operating without any doctors, leaving patients without access to specialized care. The absence of ophthalmology specialists has resulted in prolonged waiting times for consultations, postponed surgeries, and an overwhelming workload for the remaining staff in the hospital.

Similarly, the hospital is currently with only one anesthesiologist, making it impossible to proceed with many planned surgeries. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and frustration for patients who have been waiting for their procedures, further deteriorating their health conditions. Emergency patients too are facing problem and are being shifted to Srinagar for non availability of Operation theatre

Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the shortage of ophthalmologists and anesthesia doctors at our district hospital is deeply troubling. The entire district relies on this facility for essential healthcare services, and it's disheartening to see patients returning without receiving the treatment they desperately need.

Ali Mohammad, a 56-year-old patient suffering from a knee injury, expressed his concern, saying, “I traveled all the way to the District Hospital with hopes of receiving proper medical care for my condition. But to my dismay, I was informed that there are no ophthalmologists available. It's disheartening to return home without any treatment or relief.”

Nusrat Fatima, a patient suffering from a fractured arm, said, “I was brought to the hospital with hopes of getting my arm treated, but I was told that there are no ophthalmology specialists to attend to my case. It's extremely disappointing and distressing to leave the hospital without the necessary medical attention, with my fracture still unattended.”

Meanwhile, the locals appealed to the Directorate Health Services Kashmir and chief medical officer Bandipora to look into the matter so that patients can breathe a sigh of relief—(KNO)
