Over 11,000 Job Seekers Participate in Mega Job Fair in Srinagar
Collaboration with Desh Bhagat University Creates Opportunities for Employment
Srinagar, July 15: In a significant step towards boosting employment opportunities in the region, Secretary of Labour & Employment, Rehana Batul, inaugurated the highly anticipated Mega Job Fair at Kashmir Haat today.
The fair is being organized by the Directorate of Employment in collaboration with Desh Bhagat University Punjab. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from job seekers, with over 11,000 individuals who had registered online actively participating in the fair.
The Mega Job Fair served as a platform for job seekers to connect with potential employers, providing them with a plethora of opportunities. A total of 205 companies, including 25 national-level companies, took part in the event, offering more than 7,000 vacancies. In addition, various government departments implementing self-employment schemes were present to raise awareness about the different schemes available.
Prominent dignitaries, including Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Dr. Zora Singh, Director of Employment, Nisar Ahmad Wani, and Joint Director of Employment Jammu, Sheeba Inayat, graced the occasion with their presence.
The event was also attended by representatives from esteemed organizations such as the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, tourism sector, adventure tourism, travel and tour association of Kashmir, Private School Association of Kashmir, President Khanmoh Industrial Association, and Private Hospital Association of Kashmir.
During the inauguration, Secretary Rehana Batul emphasized the importance of organizing such events regularly and creating abundant job opportunities through self-employment schemes and capacity-building measures. She expressed her commitment to reducing the unemployment rate in J&K by implementing skill development trainings in various sectors to meet market demands.
Throughout the fair, Secretary Rehana Batul personally visited employer stalls, engaging in interactions with representatives from different companies and industries. The association representatives highlighted the need for skill training to accommodate a larger number of candidates in various industrial sectors. Secretary Batul assured them that necessary steps would be taken to address the unemployment challenges in J&K.
Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Dr. Zora Singh, also addressed the gathering, commending the exceptional talent of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He acknowledged their achievements in different parts of the country and the world, and reaffirmed the university's commitment to supporting and guiding the youth of the Union Territory towards a respectable livelihood. Dr. Singh emphasized that the purpose of the job fair was to bridge the gap between job providers and the unemployed youth of J&K, and expressed delight at the significant participation of thousands of youth in the event.
Director of Employment highlighted that the primary objective of the Mega Job Fair was to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, providing aspiring individuals with the opportunity to secure gainful employment. The fair proved to be highly successful, as 32 candidates received job offer letters on the spot, while 4,300 candidates were shortlisted for further rounds based on eligibility and company requirements. Additionally, around 2,000 registrations were made during the fair for various skill development courses, ensuring further opportunities for career growth and development.
