‘Our Careers Are on Hold’: Medical Graduates Voice Frustration Over Registration Delays

Srinagar,Dec 3: Professional allied-health (paramedical) graduates from various allied health streams in Jammu and Kashmir have expressed deep concern over prolonged delays in obtaining registration from the Jammu and Kashmir State Allied and Healthcare Council.

Students from across the Union Territory say they have been waiting for more than a year for the council to open registrations, leaving them worried about their careers and unable to apply for multiple government and private-sector vacancies that require mandatory registration.

Paramedical graduates, while speaking to Kashmir Convener, said they have missed several job opportunities due to the council’s inaction.

Syed Aamir, a radiology graduate from Kupwara, said the delay has left hundreds of qualified candidates in limbo.

“After completing more than one year since graduating in Radiology,we along with many other qualified candidates are still waiting for the opening of state registration for paramedical courses in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite repeated visits to the registration office, including the SMHS Paramedical Registration Department no clear information or timeline is being provided by the staff,” he said.

“This prolonged delay has put our professional future at risk, as we are continuously missing recruitment opportunities in both government and private sectors where registration is a mandatory requirement. We request the concerned authorities to urgently address this issue and open the registration process so that qualified graduates can pursue their careers without further uncertainty.”

Another graduate, Peer Mahi, echoed similar concerns, calling the situation “career-threatening.”

“It has been over a year since we completed our degrees, yet the registration for paramedical courses remains closed. Even after several visits to the offices, including SMHS, we receive no clear information. Our futures are being jeopardized because we cannot apply for vacancies without registration,” Mahi said.

Mohammed Suhaib Wani, a BSc Radiology graduate from Anantnag, said he completed his degree in March 2025 but has been unable to register despite multiple attempts.

“I visited the GMC Srinagar Allied Healthcare Sciences office several times. Most of the time no one was present, and after hours of waiting, a staff member told me the registration was closed and would open ‘soon,’” Wani said.

“From March to December, we have been repeatedly told the same thing. Several radiographer vacancies were announced this year, but without registration we are not eligible to apply. It’s my humble request to the authorities to resolve this issue.”

Paramedical students urged the Jammu and Kashmir State Allied and Healthcare Council to immediately open the registration process to prevent further loss of employment opportunities.
