OSC-Sakhi starts its operations in Bandipora; DC reviews functioning

BANDIPORA FEBURARY 05: District Development Commissioner, Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza today visited recently established  One-Stop Centre- Sakhi to review its functioning.

He was accompanied by the Management Committee members including Secretary Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon, Additional Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tajamul Hussain and Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad District Panchayat Officer Nazir Ahmad and District Social Welfare Officer Altaf Hussain.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the One-Stop Centre- Sakhi aims to provide an array of services from medical, legal, Police to psychological assistance to violence affected women under one roof. He said the centre is exclusively for women and is being run by the female staff and is serving women in distress.

The DC directed the concerned to establish a helpline for quick response and redressal mechanism in the centre, besides ensuring wide publicity of the support being provided at the centre.

The DC also directed OSC officials to launch a door to door campaign to create awareness regarding the OSC so that the aggrieved persons can approach the centre for assistance.

On the occasion Secretary DLSA Mohammad Iqbal Akhoon said Sakhi is the place for the women, managed by the women and for the women.

He said in most of the cases women hesitate to file a complaint and OSC is designed to help victims in this regard. It provides access to integrated range of services under one roof including medical aid, legal aid, psychosocial counseling and temporary support services to women affected by violence.

He assured every possible legal assistance to the aggrieved women.
