One week One Lab:CSIR-IIIM organizes Student-Scientist interaction at Srinagar Branch Lab
Srinagar, June 06: CSIR-IIIM has organised an exhibition to display technology and innovations besides holding Stduent-Scientist interaction programme at its branch Lab in Srinagar as part of the 'One Week One Lab' (OWOL) initiative.
An official spokesperson said Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh envisioned for showcasing all the 37 unique laboratories of CSIR across India to propagate their diversity to society in the form of OWOL.
Officials said CSIR-IIIM is celebrating its OWOL activities from 4th to 10th June for displaying the technologies and innovations of CSIR-IIIM. On the second day of OWOL celebrations, a Student-Scientist program was organized at CSIR-IIIM Branch Lab Srinagar under JIGYASA.
More than 20 schools from Srinagar and nearby areas participated in various activities where Scientists and scholars of the institute demonstrated various activities and experiments to the students.
The students showed their excitement and were very keen to understand the science experiments. A total number of 130 students participated, in which 30 students participated in 'Do it Yourself' (DIY) activities, and 50 students were engaged in lab visits.
The DIY activities included DNA Isolation, Electrophoresis, Electrolysis of water, Centrifugation, Microscopy, Cell Culture Saponification of fats, TLC, pH testing of solution, Column Chromatography.
Large number of students showed up their interest and showcased their talent in painting completion, science model competition and hackathon (Beat Plastic Pollution: Ecosystem Restoration) where 11 students participated in Science Model, 13 students participated in Hackathon, 48 students participated in Painting. 09 Students were declared winners of 03 competitions.
Among the 03 competitions, Baseera Mohsin, a student of P.C. School got Ist prize in Hackathon, Zia un Nisa,a student of GGHSS Kothibagh got Ist prize in Science Model Competition and Iqra Riyaz, a student of GGHSS Kothibagh got Ist prize in Painting Competition.
Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Head HRDG & Coordinator of CSIR Jigyasa program inaugurated the event and emphasized that CSIR is committed to inculcate the scientific temperament among the students at their young age.
She also encouraged the students to take advantage of CSIR virtual lab. Director CSIR-IIIM Jammu, Dr Zabeer Ahmed in his message encouraged the school students to actively participate in various scientific activities being organized by CSIR-IIIM and emphasized on play way methods of science teaching and hands on training programs.
Er. Abdul Rahim, Head IIIM Branch Srinagar in his message urged the students to motivate their friends & family to understand basic science behind day to day activities and encouraged students to participate in all scientific events from childhood.
Among other dignitaries, Dr Asha Chaubey, Nodal scientist Jigyasa & program coordinator, Dr Khursheed, organizer and other senior scientists and staff were also present. The program was also attended by faculties and teaching staff of several leading schools of Srinagar and adjoining areas
