Bandipora, June 3: The Eco Club of NM Boys Higher Secondary School, Bandipora, has launched a series of environmental awareness and sustainability programmes as part of the Global Week of Action 2026, marking 20 years of the Climate Reality Project India and South Asia.
The week-long programme was inaugurated by Eco Club Coordinator Tawheed Parvaiz Bhat with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and encouraging climate action among students and the wider community.
To commemorate the occasion, the school designated the first week of June as the Global Week of Action and prepared a schedule of activities focused on environmental conservation, renewable energy, waste management and sustainable practices.
The programme commenced on June 1 with a Solar Energy Awareness initiative. A seminar was organised to educate students about the significance of solar energy as a clean and renewable source of power. Eco Club members also conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign in nearby localities to inform residents about the benefits and future potential of solar energy.
On the second day, students participated in activities related to waste segregation and waste management. A cleanliness drive was organised within the school premises, during which Eco Club members promoted proper waste disposal practices and highlighted the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene.
The third day featured a plantation drive and maintenance of flower beds on the school campus. Students planted saplings and undertook activities aimed at improving the green cover and ecological value of the institution’s surroundings.
School authorities said the activities were designed to encourage environmental responsibility among students and provide practical exposure to sustainable practices. The programmes also sought to foster greater awareness about climate-related challenges and the role of individuals in addressing them.
Through the week-long initiative, the school reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development while contributing to the objectives of the Climate Reality Project India and South Asia.
