Bandipora, 09 Feb: The residents of New Colony Gamroo and Lawdara are up in arms against Power Development Department (PDD) for continuous power outages due to damaged transformers.

The villagers alleged that department is adopting delaying tactics in repairing the defunct transformers and restoring electricity. They demanded upgradation of 100 kv transformers to 250 kv's in the area as they said that the current transformer is not able to bear the load and has to cater larger area.

They said 100 KV transformer of their colony went defunct three times in past one month leaving the village reeling under darkness. "We have requested PDD authorities to replace the low capacity transformers with a higher one so that it can bear the load of the all households of the village but all in vain as our pleas fell on deaf ears,” said Naseer Ahmad.

They demanded that their 100 KV transformer should be replaced with high capacity transformer so that it can bear the load of the village.

Officials of PDD maintain that locals are not using power judiciously and they run motors, heaters, boilers and other electricity gadgets. “That is why transformers develop snags and go out of order,” said an official.

Assistant Executive Engineer PDD Bandipora Reyaz Ahmad said that," transformer got damaged due to overload," he said and assured the transformers will be repaired at earliest.
