Bandipora, July 24: Senior National Conference leader and Joint Secretary North Zone, Tanveer Ahmad Bhutto Monday raised serious concerns about the deteriorating drainage system in Bandipora town.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, Bhutto pointed out that despite the exponential increase in population, the drainage infrastructure remains outdated, leading to various hardships for the residents.

Addressing the media, Bhuthoo emphasized that the town's drainage system, which is reportedly decades old, is struggling to cope with the current population demands. “This has resulted in severe inconvenience for the inhabitants, especially during the rainy season, when water-logging and flooding become recurrent problems”.

Furthermore, the Senior National Conference leader criticized the Municipal Council Bandipora for its failure to execute the planned overhaul of the drainage system, despite having approved funds for the project. He expressed disappointment at the lack of progress and questioned the efficiency of the MCB in fulfilling its duties.

According to Bhuthoo, the residents of Plan Bandipora are particularly affected by the faulty drainage system, causing distress and hindering their daily lives.

He accused the Municipal Council Bandipora of providing misleading information and presenting an overly positive picture of the town's condition on social media platforms and to the district administration.

To bring attention to the dire situation, Bhuthoo urged the Deputy Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmad to personally visit the heart of the town, similar to the Block Diwas initiative, and assess the ground reality.

He emphasized the need for immediate action to rectify the drainage system and provide relief to the suffering residents.

“As the situation in Bandipora continues to worsen due to the inadequacies of the drainage system, the Plan resident awaits a prompt response from the concerned authorities to address the pressing issue and ensure the well-being of its citizens,” he said in the statement.
