NC Govt. Committed to Statehood Restoration: Sports Minister Satish Sharma

Sopore, Nov 09: Sports Minister Satish Sharma affirmed on Sunday that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led National Conference Government is utilizing all available means to secure the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of a public function in Sopore, Minister Sharma as per Kashmir Convener framed the issue as a matter of principle.

“The National Conference has always been at the forefront of public service. The struggle we are waging is a fight for our self-respect, for the state’s identity, and for its development,” he stated. He added that Chief Minister Abdullah is leading this effort against various opposing forces.

Acknowledging that no administration is perfect, Sharma praised CM Abdullah as a “development-oriented and positive leader” who has provided opportunities to people like himself.

Reflecting on the past, the Minister expressed regret over the losses suffered by what he described as a “splendid state.” He suggested that while addressing the shortcomings of the last two decades would take time, significant progress would become visible within the next four years.

Shifting focus to his portfolio, Sharma outlined an ambitious plan to position Jammu and Kashmir among India’s top three sporting states.

He highlighted recent achievements, including the territory’s first-ever water sports event, the expansion of skiing competitions to Sonamarg, and the launch of a downhill mountain biking series. He also announced that more international sporting events are anticipated in the coming times.

On economic development, the Minister assured that new industries would be established to boost local employment and growth.

When questioned about the recent IHPL controversy, Sharma confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. “The police are investigating, and the law will take its own course. Anyone found guilty will be punished,” he stated.
