Bandipora, January 21: Residents of Bazar Mohalla Nadihal Bandipora on Saturday alleged step motherly treatment by the district administration with regard to providing basic civic amenities.
The residents of Nadihal Bazar Mohallah said that not a single street light has been installed in the market despite the fact that district administration installed street lights in every public place including markets in rural and urban areas.
Nadihal is a village located on the banks of Asia Largest Freshwater Lake, Wular along the highway connecting Bandipora to Srinagar. It is just 4 km away from Bandipora town and among the largest villages of the district.
There are though few solar street lights installed in the upper side of the main market. However not even a single street light has been installed towards the South of the Nadihal market called Bazar Mohalla thus making it difficult for the people to walk during night hours. “ Come after evening prayers, the North side of the market will be open till late evening while the south shuts early owing to darkness,” said Hilal Ahmad, one of the residents.
"More than a decade ago, PDD installed a few street lights across the length of the Market, however after a year all of those lights were dysfunctional and till date none of these were replaced,” he added.
One of the famous springs also finds its existence in Bazar Mohalla of Nadihal thus witnessing rush during evening hours. However, the absence of street lights trouble the women folk who go to fetch water from the spring.
"We collect drinking water from the spring throughout the year whether summer or winter, however having no lights in the area creates a huge problem for us as the area lies near the hillside forest", said Fayaz Ahamd, a local.
Residents of Bazar Mohalla appealed DC Bandipora for the redressal of their grievance at an earliest to end the agony and sufferings of the people.
