Sumbal, Feb 18: With water levels in River Jhelum dipping alarmingly low, MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone, visited various Lift Irrigation Schemes in his constituency to assess the situation and formulate strategies for the upcoming irrigation season.
The MLA was accompanied by Exen I&FC Sumbal, Mutayib Bashir, ExEn MID Shadipora and other concerned visited various areas including MID Shadipora, wasikhan, prang, Asham, Madwan, rakhi Hajin and other areas.
Accompanied by officials from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, including the Executive Engineer, MLA Lone conducted an extensive review at Shadipora, Rakhi Shilvat, Sumbal, Asham, and other affected areas. The visit aimed at ensuring that farmers do not suffer due to water shortages during the critical agricultural season.
Speaking on the occasion, Lone emphasized the need for immediate remedial measures to tackle the declining water levels and ensure efficient functioning of lift irrigation schemes.
During the visit, MLA Hilal Akbar Lone discussed the progress of irrigation infrastructure, assessed the condition of canals and water distribution systems, besides interacted with locals and officials to address any concerns or challenges.
He urged the concerned departments to take proactive measures for maintaining the irrigation system throughout the season and emphasized the importance of timely and efficient irrigation facilities to support agriculture and the livelihood of farmers.
