Pampore, July 22: Amid continuous rainfall across the Kashmir Valley, MLA Pampore Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi on Wednesday reviewed flood preparedness by inspecting the water level of the River Jhelum and directing officials to strengthen vulnerable flood protection measures.

Accompanied by officials of the Flood Control Department, Masoodi visited several locations along the Jhelum in Pampore to assess the prevailing situation and review the administration’s preparedness in view of the persistent rains.

During the inspection, the MLA instructed the concerned authorities to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of the river and remain vigilant to any rise in the water level. He stressed the need for timely preventive measures to safeguard lives and property and ensure minimal inconvenience to the public.

Masoodi directed officials to identify weak and vulnerable stretches along the Jhelum embankments and immediately reinforce flood protection bunds wherever required to minimise the risk of breaches in case of further increase in the river’s water level.

He also called for effective coordination among all concerned departments and asked officials to remain fully prepared to respond promptly to any flood-related emergency.

Earlier, the MLA had visited the flood-affected localities of Patalbagh and Samboora, where heavy rainfall had inundated several residential areas. During the visit, he interacted with affected families and assured them of all possible assistance and support from the district administration.

The inspection comes as the administration continues to monitor weather conditions and strengthen flood preparedness across vulnerable areas following intermittent heavy rainfall in the Valley.
