MLA Nizamuddin Bhat Urges Union Minister Gadkari to Grant NH Status to Bandipora Roads
Bandipora, March 7: Member of Legislative Assembly from Bandipora Nizamudin Bhat on Friday reiterated the demand to grant national highway status to two key Bandipora roads.
An official spokesperson of the legislator said Bhat has once again reiterated the demand for National Highway status for the Sumbal-Bandipora-Gurez Road (128 km) and Sangrama-Bandipora-Sumbal Road (78 km) —a crucial lifeline for North Kashmir.
After the government revealed that it had sought approval from the central government for granting national highway status to the two key roads, Bhat appealed to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the approval process for the public good.
He emphasized that upgrading this key route to National Highway status is not merely about connectivity but a critical step toward economic growth, regional integration and ending the isolation of Bandipora and Gurez.
“We have been persistently pushing for this demand because it is a necessity, not a luxury. The highway will unlock economic opportunities, strengthen trade and improve accessibility for our people. I call upon the government to recognize the urgency of this issue and act swiftly. The public must also acknowledge the relentless efforts being made in their interest,” Bhat stated.
Bhat has reassured the people that he will not rest until this demand is fulfilled.
