MLA Bani Accuses BJP of Playing ‘Kashmir Card’ to Mask Failures

Convener News Desk

Jammu, Feb 13: MLA Bani Dr Rameshwar Singh on Friday launched a sharp attack on BJP legislators, accusing them of invoking the “Kashmir card” to conceal their failures in representing the interests of Jammu.

Speaking to reporters outside the Legislative Assembly, Dr Singh said BJP members have not effectively articulated the concerns of Jammu in the House. He alleged that instead of raising pressing issues related to development, employment and infrastructure in Jammu, BJP legislators repeatedly resort to blaming Kashmiris to divert attention.

He said it was unrealistic to expect an MLA from Pahalgam to plead the case of Bani or any other Jammu constituency, as each representative naturally focuses on issues concerning his or her own area. He maintained that BJP legislators, rather than highlighting genuine concerns of Jammu, were indulging in what he described as divisive politics.

Dr Singh further alleged that BJP committed injustice with the people of Jammu by selectively extending Scheduled Tribe status to areas such as Rajouri and Poonch for electoral gains, while ignoring genuinely backward and hilly belts like Bani. He said developmental disparities within Jammu region must be addressed on merit and not political considerations.

Calling upon the people of Jammu to be vigilant, the MLA said BJP is not the sole voice of the region. He asserted that several representatives from Jammu, despite not belonging to BJP, continue to raise issues affecting the people.

He accused BJP of spreading division and using regional narratives to shield governance shortcomings, claiming that such tactics may not succeed indefinitely. [KNT]
