Bandipora, Jan 05: Mission Vatsalya (Child Protection Services), Bandipora, in collaboration with Mission Shakti, organised an awareness programme at Kehnusa area of Bandipora on Monday under the Child Marriage Free Bharat initiative.
The programme was conducted by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) along with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Child Helpline and Child Helpdesk, with the objective of sensitising the local community about the harmful effects of child marriage. The speakers highlighted its legal implications, social consequences, and the collective responsibility of society in eliminating the practice.
Special emphasis was laid on the role of families, community elders and local institutions in safeguarding the rights, health and future of children. As part of the outreach, religious leaders were sensitised and encouraged to spread awareness against child marriage during religious congregations.
The team also visited various religious places, including masjids, where detailed discussions were held with Auqaf Committee members on discouraging and preventing child marriage in their respective areas.
To ensure timely reporting and assistance in cases of child rights violations, information about the Child Helpline number 1098 was widely disseminated. Awareness posters carrying key messages against child marriage and details of child protection services were displayed at prominent locations to maximise outreach.
The programme witnessed active participation from community members and received a positive response, reflecting growing awareness and collective commitment towards making Bandipora a child marriage–free district.
