Bandipora, June 5: SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, organised a plantation drive and environmental awareness programme to celebrate World Environment Day

An official spokesperson said the programme was held in collaboration with the Forest Department Bandipora, Hills and Hearts Foundation, and Star Sports Academy. He said the programme was held at Panar, where participants carried out a plantation drive in an area identified by the Forest Department for afforestation.

The event also featured an eco-walk through the lush green forests of the region, an awareness rally and an environmental pledge ceremony aimed at promoting conservation and sustainable practices.
A major highlight of the programme was the “Ek Paudha Beti Ke Naam” initiative, under which girls planted saplings as a symbol of nurturing both nature and the girl child. The initiative reinforced the message of environmental stewardship alongside the objectives of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.

Officials from Mission Shakti, the Forest Department and partner organisations interacted with participants and encouraged them to become ambassadors of environmental conservation and gender equality. They stressed that protecting the environment and empowering girls are shared responsibilities that are essential for building a greener, healthier and more inclusive society.

Participants pledged to safeguard natural resources, support the education and empowerment of girls, and contribute towards sustainable development in the district.

Spokesperson further stated that the programme concluded with a collective commitment to continue environmental conservation efforts while further strengthening the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao across Bandipora.
