Bandipora,02 May: Students and teachers of Government Middle School Malikpora Sumlar area of Bandipora district are facing hardships for lack of sufficient space, approach road, playground and other basic facilities at the school.
Located in the paddy fields of Bandipora district, the school management finds it difficult to accommodate some 45 students in the single storey 03-roomed building.
According to local residents, absence of basic facilities at the school is forcing a number of students from economically weaker section of society to either discontinue their schooling or to get enrolled in private schools. “We have requested the authorities several times to enhance the infrastructure of this school and also asked for road to be built here, but so far no step has been taken in this regard.
In the times of stiff competition when others are competing over the quality of education, our kids are still struggling to even get the basic needs fulfilled,” Shazia- local resident said.
With 04 teachers the school have a small staff room and the kitchen functions in the same room. Only two classrooms are accomodating roll of 45 students of 08 classes.
Residents said the school has good enrolment and teachers cannot manage to take classes in congested classrooms.
Sometimes teachers take classes under the open paddy fields owing to the space constraints in the school, they said.
Chief Education Bandipora Javid Iqbal Wani said he has recently joined as CEO in district and would collect all the details from office staff to redress the issues immediately, he said.The residents and students appealed Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to look into the matter on priority basis.
