Bandipora, March 04: Municipal Council Chairman Bandipora Khursheed Ahmad on Friday participated in tree plantation drive along embankments of Arin Nallah in Bandipora.
The plantation drive was launched along the embankments of Arin Nallah at Papchan Bandipora which was organised by Social Forestry Department.
On the occasion, the Chairman said that tree plantation was vital to mitigate the repercussions of environmental pollution and to protect eco system for maintaining decent and healthy environment.
The Chairman planted a conifer sapling to formally launch the drive. He added that the plants enhanced the aesthetic profile of the landscape which warrants maximum active participation both of the forest and other government departments
In his address, Khursheed Ahmad complimented the Forest Department for launching the programme saying afforestation is critical for a UT like Jammu & Kashmir whose survival is heavily dependent on plant life and biodiversity. Also Jammu & Kashmir being a tourist UT maintaining proper green cover is all the more important for us, he said.
The Chairman said that everyone should take it as a responsibility to plant trees in the there native areas. "Involving students and youth helps bring awareness among them on the advantages of tree plantation," he added.
