Bandipora, June 13: The Municipal Council Bandipora Friday conducted a polythene seizure drive in the Main Market area as part of its ongoing efforts to make the town plastic-free.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, an official spokesperson said the drive aimed to curb the illegal use and sale of single-use plastic and polythene bags, which are banned due to their harmful environmental effects.

He said a team of officials from the Municipal Council, along with sanitation workers and volunteers, visited shops and roadside vendors in the market area.

During the drive, polythene bags were seized from several establishments found violating the ban. Awareness was also spread among shopkeepers and customers about the hazards of plastic pollution and the importance of switching to eco-friendly alternatives like cloth or jute bags.

The shopkeepers were warned against further use of banned polythene items and informed about the penalties for repeat violations. Pamphlets highlighting the benefits of a plastic-free environment were also distributed.

The Municipal Council urges all citizens to cooperate in this mission to make Bandipora cleaner and greener.

“Such drives will continue in other parts of the town to ensure strict enforcement of the polythene ban and promote sustainable living practices among the people”.
