May Day celebrations sans commitment to worker’s welfare: Masoodi
Seeks regularisation of DRWs, casual, need based, consolidated, contractual, contingent paid, local fund, CIC and other workers
Srinagar, 01 May: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference National senior leader and Member of the Parliament from Anantnag, Hasnain Masoodi today expressed dismay over the apathy, insensitivity and indifference of the Union Government and LG administration towards the grave problems faced by the working class in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement released from the party headquarters, he stated that while unemployment levels have reached all-time high, a good number of those counted as employed are underemployed and paid humiliating wages far less than the minimum wagers prescribed under law.
“The miserable plight of thousands of the workers, serving government and semi government departments under different names and labels like daily rated, casual, need based, contractual, consolidated, local fund workers etc, though forming backbone of such departments are pushed to the streets to demand regularisation, minimum wages and timely payment of the their salaries,” he said.
“The injustice continued to be done to the 51 DRW workers of JK Cements is without a parallel. The government, after the JK Cements was shut because of reasons entirely attributable to it, deputed its employees to different departments. However, 51 DRW in service of JK Cements for more than a decade on the date of closure, have not been deployed till date despite matter being taken up with the authorities including Advisor to LG a number times,” he said adding, “The 51 DRWs and their families have been pushed to starvation. These workers are similarly placed as other DRWs serving in government departments and have a right to continue and to be regularised like other DRWs.”
Masoodi has demanded immediate deployment of the 51 DRWs to government departments so that their families are saved from starvation and long pending genuine grievances are redressed.
Masoodi has also demanded regularisation of all the DRWs, casual, need based, consolidated, contractual, contingent paid, local fund, CIC and other workers and payment of minimum wages to all the workers pending regularisation.
