Dooru, Dec 27 : Massive forest fire erupted in south Kashmir’s Dooru area of Anantnag District on Sunday evening.
Locals said the fire broke out in the evening around Lisser Hills (Rakhe Lisser Dooru) and spread to a vast area as the concerned officials failed to douse the flames on time.
Fire tenders has been rushed to the area and the fire fighting operation with the help of local volunteers continued till this report was being filed.
The locals said that the compartment under fire has very rich heritage of flora and fauna in Dooru.
An officer said that a team of officials and workers of the department are busy dousing fire since evening. “We are trying our best to control the fire and have so far succeeded in stopping it from spreading to the adjoining areas, said an official. The cause of forest is yet to be ascertained.
