Locals rescue two sisters from snow after avalanche hit Gurez village

Bandipora, January 20: Two minors were rescued by the timely intervention of the locals when a snow avalanche hit a stream at Check-Jurneyal village of Tulail Gurez on Saturday morning.
Two sisters Hanifa Bari (17) and Zoytoona Bari (19) came under the avalanche when they were on their way to get drinking water from a nearby stream.
As the news of Snow Avalanche spread in Check Jurneyal village, the locals rushed to rescue the trapped sisters and after toiling hard the two sisters were rescued successfully.
The two sisters received minor injuries and were immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital Gurez where their condition is stable, an official of Health Department said.
A relative of the two sisters told Kashmir Convener that if the whole village would have not come out immediately, they would have been dead. “The shortage of water supply forced these sisters to go to a nearby stream despite warning from the state government and were they got trapped in Snow Avalanche,” she said adding that village lacks regular water connectivity.
The residents of the Check-Jurneyal village have appealed District Commissioner Bandipora Shahid Choudhary to provide water facility to their village so that they don’t have to suffer more.
