Srinagar, Oct 5: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has prorogued the Union Territory’s Legislative Assembly, an official order said on Monday, formally ending the House’s current session.

“The following order of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir dated 1st October, 2026 is hereby issued for general information,” read a bulletin issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

The order stated: “I, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under clause (a) of the Sub-section (2) of Section 18 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, do hereby prorogue the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.”

The notification was signed by the Lieutenant Governor and issued under number LA-6022-6060/Legn/2026.

Prorogation terminates the current session of the House but does not dissolve the Assembly, which continues to exist as a constitutional body. Unlike dissolution, pending bills do not lapse upon prorogation under the Indian constitutional scheme.

The Assembly’s autumn session, which began on September 21, concluded on September 30.
