Leopard, Three Cubs Captured in Tral After Two-Month Operation

Tral, July 30: A female leopard and her three cubs, which had been causing panic in the Lurgam area of Tral’s Khangund Range for the past two months, were successfully captured by the Wildlife Control Team on Tuesday, bringing major relief to local residents.

Wildlife Warden South Kashmir, Suhail Ahmad Wagay, confirmed the operation to Kashmir Convener, stating that the rescue was carried out with “utmost care” and close coordination. “The safety of both the animals and the public was our priority,” Wagay said.

Following the capture, the leopard and her cubs were transported to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Shopian, where they will undergo medical examination and routine checks. Officials said the animals are in good health.

The Wildlife Department assured that all standard safety protocols were strictly followed during the operation, and reiterated its commitment to animal welfare and public safety.

Residents of Lurgam, who had been living in fear for weeks, welcomed the swift action and thanked the wildlife authorities for their timely response.
