BANDIPORA, APRIL 11: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1 conducted field visits to progressive farmers across the district, highlighting the growing impact of scientific farming practices and agri-entrepreneurship in the region.

An official spokesperson said the visits were carried out under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Nazir Ahmad Ganai and Director Extension Raihana Habib Kanth, with the aim of assessing outcomes of capacity-building and skill development programmes.

Among the notable success stories is Mohd Ramzan Bhat of Watapora, a B.Tech graduate who has emerged as a successful “Vegetable Smart Farmer.” With technical support from KVK Bandipora-1, he has established a thriving vegetable nursery enterprise, supplying high-quality seedlings across the region.

Another progressive farmer, Gh. Mohd Bhat from Mangnipora, has adopted high-density apple orchard cultivation. With scientific orchard management practices, he has significantly improved productivity and fruit quality, setting an example for modern horticulture in the district.

Zaffrullah Lone from Ashtangoo has also made a mark as an agri-entrepreneur in the oilseed sector. Starting with KVK guidance, he has established an oil extraction unit producing organic edible oils and oil cakes, which are now distributed across the Kashmir Valley and beyond.

The visiting team, led by Head KVK Bandipora-1 Dr. Tariq Sultan, interacted with farmers and observed on-field innovations. They stressed the importance of adopting scientific interventions to ensure sustainability and higher returns in agriculture.

The programme also included interactive sessions and demonstrations on nursery management, crop cultivation, and integrated farming practices, with active participation from farmers, including women.

KVK Bandipora-1 has trained hundreds of farmers in the district, many of whom have successfully ventured into horticulture, vegetable production, and allied sectors. Officials reiterated their commitment to empowering farmers through innovation, training, and extension services, contributing to agricultural growth in the region.
