Srinagar, December 01: Koshish- a Non-Governmental Organisation on Tuesday celebrated World Aids Day in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Aids Control Society (JKACS).
A function was organised on the directions of project director Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather at New Kashmir Fruit association’s Hall Parimpora Srinagar.
World Aids Day is designated on Dec 1 to raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic and HIV infection and in memory of people who have died due to this disease. This year the theme of the event was “Global Solidarity Shared Responsibility,” as proposed by the Director JKSCS.
The dignitaries from New Kashmir Fruit associations and KOSHISH Director – Dr Rouf Malik were chief guests on the occassion while head of Transport Association, labourers and people from different walks of life particularly truckers and fruit vendors participated in the event.
Dr Rouf highlighted key issues regarding the need of abolishing the social stigma attached to AIDS patients and importance of supporting the AIDS patients physiologically and through the proper medical care. He also talked about COVID-19, its challenges and comparison with AIDS. " In this modern digitization era, it is responsibility of each citizen not to discriminate people on the basis of any disease, moreover such people must not be seen as separate entity but it is our collective responsibility to assimilate them back in the society" he added.
KOSHISH staff along with Kashmir University Interns of MSW 2018 Batch performed a Nukad Nataq for Aids Awareness which portrayed how Aids spreads and what are the myths associated with it.
JKACS, NACO and other world organizations which have played a key role in preventing the spread of HIV virus cases and managing patients with AIDS.
Both the dignitaries hailed the efforts of local partners of JKACS in their wonderful work on ground in sensitizing the target group and people in general and keeping track of the objectives of the programme in the state.
