KC Impact : RDD Cleans Roadside Solid Waste at Bazipora; Locals Demand ‘Rock Park’ to Attract Travellers
Bandipora, January 20: A recent video shared by Kashmir Convener on its social media platform showcasing solid waste being dumped at one of the beautiful stretches of Bandipora-Srinagar Road near Bazipora has prompted swift action from the Rural Development Department (RDD), Block Hajin.
On Saturday morning the Kashmir Convener shared a video of Bazipora village along Srinagar Bandipora road wherein the solid waste was dumped turning the road ugly for visitors.
The department, under the directions of the Assistant Commissioner Panchayats (ACP) Bandipora, immediately intervened and cleared the accumulated waste and initiated measures to prevent further littering.
In a statement issued by the RDD, Officials said the issue of waste accumulation at these locations on Srinagar-Bandipora road is matter of concern, however, it is important to clarify the circumstances leading to this situation.
Officials said the identified spots are located along the roadside, and unfortunately, travelers commuting from Bandipora and beyond have developed a habit of indiscriminately disposing of garbage from their vehicles. Despite regular clearance of these waste spats by the Rural Development Department (RDD) Block Hajin on the directions of ACP Bandipora, the problem persists due to continuous littering by commuters.
They said to address the issue, strict monitoring is being undertaken. “One vehicle involved in illegal waste disposal has already been identified, and its details will be submitted to the police authorities for the registration of an FIR,” officials informed Kashmir Convener.
“Stern action will be taken against violators to prevent further environmental degradation. The sites stand again cleared today, the photographs are enclosed, demonstrating our ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness,”.
The Officers informed that any individual or vehicle caught dumping waste at these locations shall be penalised and action as required under law will be taken. We urge all citizens to act responsibly and contribute towards maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.
Meanwhile locals appreciated the department for paying heed to the peoples’ concerns by restoring the old glory of the identified areas that are close to forests and on the banks of Wullar adding beauty the road.
Many residents have proposed converting the site into a rock garden, leveraging the area’s large natural boulders as a point of attraction.
“It wouldn’t require a significant budget,” locals suggested. “With some fencing, planting of flowers, and cleaning the rocks, this stretch of the Bandipora-Srinagar Road near Bazipora could become a beautiful spot for travelers and a stopover for travellers like at Sunset Point at SK Payeen,” locals said.
