Srinagar, June 12: A high-level delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF), affiliated with the All India State Teachers Federation (AISTF), called on the Hon’ble Education Minister Sakeena Masood Itoo at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, to discuss pressing issues concerning the teaching fraternity and the overall education system in the Union Territory.

An official spokesperson said the delegation, led by State Vice President Mehraj-ud-Din Zargar, comprised UT General Secretary Mr. Mir Bashir Ahmad, UT Chief Spokesperson Mr. Tahir Ahmad Sofi, UT Chief Press & Publicity Secretary Mr. M. Ashraf Khan, Vice Provincial President Mr. Mir Ab Qayoom, District President Srinagar Mr. Gh. Mohi-ud-Din Mir, and District President Kupwara Mr. Mohammad Altaf Lone.

According to a press release issued by Chief Spokesperson Mr. Tahir Ahmad Sofi, the Forum submitted a comprehensive charter of demands focusing on systemic reforms and employee welfare.

The Forum urged the Minister to ensure effective and inclusive rationalization across the UT. It was pointed out that nearly 70% of the total teaching workforce in J&K comprises Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers, who are currently excluded from the rationalization process due to the absence of a clear transfer policy.

The Forum argued that sustainable rationalization is not feasible unless ReT teachers are brought under a structured policy framework. They also discussed Implementation of NEP-2020, Transparent Grievance Redressal Mechanism, pending MDM Dues & Remuneration Issues and Career Progression & Promotions.

The Forum called for timely promotions and avenues for career advancement for teaching staff Filling Vacant Administrative Posts. The delegation also highlighted the need to immediately fill vacant posts of Headmasters, ZEOs, Principals, and CEOs to prevent disruption in academic and administrative functioning.

According to forum spokesperson the Minister gave the delegation a patient and encouraging hearing, acknowledged the concerns raised, and invited the Forum to submit a detailed written proposal for policy consideration. She assured that genuine and urgent matters will be addressed in a timely manner.
