Jammu Hit and Run Case: Family seeks speedy action, arrest of absconding driver

Bandipora, 04 Jan: Three days on, the Jammu police is yet to arrest the Hyundai i20 driver who is accused of a hit-and-run incident that led to the death of a contractor of Bandipora on January 02.
The Family and relatives of the deceased contractor, who was killed after hit by an unknown vehicle in Greater Kalash which falls in Police Station Gangyal area of Jammu three days ago, have urged the authorities to trace out the accused driver involved in the crime.
A prominent contractor from north Kashmir's Bandipora district was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Gangyal area of Jammu on Monday.
Officials said that a contractor identified as Mohammad Akram Bhat of Vijhara Lowdara village of Bandipora was killed on spot after being hit by a speedy four wheeler in Gangyal area of Jammu.
They, however, said that soon after the incident, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot along with the vehicle.
"After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family and was buried at Bandipora," they said.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that they have identified the vehicle (Hyundai-i20) involved in the hit and run case.
"We have booked the driver under Indian Penal Code sections pertaining to rash driving and causing death due to negligence and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act," he said, adding that police have launched a search to nab the driver.
The car driver fled from the spot after hitting the contractor leaving victim in a pool of blood leading to his death as he didn't get medical aide on time.
