J&K Lt Governors’ jibe at Pakistan; ‘Country selling Atta at Rs 125 can’t be saviour of JK citizens’

Baramulla, May 30: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday took a jibe at Pakistan and said that the country that can’t feed its own people can never be saviours of Kashmiris.

The LG said this after inaugurating the several key infrastructure projects that include seven Custom Hiring Centres for farmers and nine Poly GreenHouses for Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Baramulla district.

 He said that the country that can’t feed its own people can never be the saviors of J&K citizens. “In Pakistan, Atta per kg is sold at Rs 125. How can it (Pakistan) be the well-wisher of people of J&K,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan is at the brink of economic collapse while it is simultaneously facing a political crisis. Amid inflation, the country witnesses acute shortage  of atta as it couldn’t import due to lack of dollars in the country. Dozens of civilians died in stampedes while collecting subsidized Atta bags from government stores.

The LG said that the people of J&K are forgetting the past and playing their role in peace building.

“The UT is going through a massive development. But no development can take place without peace. There are still some elements who can’t digest this peace. We all will defeat their plans,” he said.

“Baramulla district has a history of valour and courage. This aspirational district has transformed itself into a centre of economic importance in the last few years,” the LG said.

        While hailing the preparations put in place by the district administration to host the G-20 guests, the LG said that the foreign delegates couldn’t come to Gulmarg due to “time constraints and logistic issues.” “But I am sure that the successful event in Srinagar will definitely help see a large number of foreign guests at the ski-resort in the ensuing year,” he said.

He said 57 foreign guests from 27 countries attended the G-20 meeting which is the highest ever participation as far as the G-20 working group meetings is concerned.

The LG said that in J&K, 70 per cent of the people are dependent on Agriculture. “A massive change will take place in the Agriculture sector soon. There are 29 projects that are inter-linked but purely aimed at change the fate of Agriculture and those associated with it,” he said.

The LG said that the administration’s initiatives in health, education, infrastructure, connectivity and emphasis on empowering women and youth have opened up a vast array of opportunities. “Focus on balanced development is benefitting all sections of society & backward areas are being linked to the mainstream,” he said.

The LG said that Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) offers an opportunity to empower 3/4th population of J&K. “We have to ensure that Kisan Sampark Abhiyan benefit more farmers & subsequent interventions lead to sustained growth and development,” he said, adding that “I am hopeful that J&K will largely contribute to the India’s three trillion dollar economy.”—(KNO)
