Introductory Fencing Camp & 1st District Championship Conclude Successfully in Bandipora
Bandipora, Oct 30:
The District Fencing Association Bandipora successfully organized and concluded a two-day Introductory Fencing Camp and the 1st District Level Fencing Championship at Cricket Ground Gamroo, Bandipora. The event, held on October 29 and 30 under the aegis of the J&K Fencing Association, witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 90 budding fencers across the district.
Participants competed in Sub-Junior, Junior, and Senior categories, showcasing impressive discipline, energy, and sportsmanship. The matches were supervised by Mr. Zain-ul-Abideen, an NIS-certified fencing expert, along with a team of qualified technical officials.
In the championship, Sharik Bashir clinched Gold in Epee Boys, while Jasim Javid bagged Silver. In the Epee Girls category, Ulfat Feroze won Gold and Insha Hussain secured Silver. Other notable winners included S.Z. Mohammad Affan (Gold, Foil Boys), Burhan U Din (Gold, U-17 Boys Epee), Mozin Altaf (Silver, U-17 Boys Epee), and Peer Zada Aakash (Bronze, U-17 Boys Epee).
The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Ab. Hameed Dar (Numberdar), Mr. Firdous Ahmad Ganie, and Ms. Sara Begum, a social activist and chairperson, who applauded the efforts of the organizers and encouraged young athletes to pursue fencing with dedication.
The event was hailed as a milestone in promoting fencing in Bandipora, providing local youth with an opportunity to explore and excel in this dynamic Olympic sport.
