INDIAN ARMY UNDERTAKES RESCUE MISSION TO SAVE CIVILIANS TRAPPED IN AVALANCHE NEAR KHUNI NALA
Srinagar, 12 March 2019 . Army on Monday said that it launched a rescue operation to rescue five civilians who were trapped in an avalanche near Khuni Nala in Tangdhar.
In a statement issued today, spokesperson said At night, Raza Manzoor, ex MLA Karnah, SDM and SHO Karnah informed Karnah Brigade of Indian Army that five civil personnel ware trapped near Khuni Nala on Chowkibal – Tangdhar route. The Civil Authorities sought Army's help in rescuing these personnel. It was snowing heavily in the area with blizzard like conditions at the likely location of these trapped individuals.
"The Army detachment undertook a daring rescue mission under Major Amit in the highly avalanche prone areas. The sustained effort of the team despite facing number of avalanches was able to rescue two individuals. However one person of the balance three had already passed away, one was in serious condition and the third person was in severe shock suffering from intense hypothermia" statement reads.
'"The rescue team despite facing fearful odds was able to rescue all three personnel to Nastachun Pass. During rescue period the second patient passed away and the third person went in coma. The medical team ex Army deployed at Nastachun pass was not able to save the third person. In its quest to ensure safety and better lives of Tangdhar residents the Karnah Brigade once again upheld the ethos of Indian Army of Service before Self. The people highly appreciated the spirit of Indian Army Team members to save precious lives despite extreme danger to their own lives'.
