Gurez, June 12: In a heartwarming display of civil-military harmony, the Indian Army’s Rana Battalion (Bagtore) organized its annual community outreach event on Thursday at the revered Peer Baba Shrine near the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Gurez Valley, Bandipora district.
The event, held every year, draws large participation from local residents and school children, and serves as a reflection of the deep-rooted trust and camaraderie between the Army and the border communities.
As per an official spokesperson, the day began with the ceremonial laying of a wreath and the traditional offering of a blanket at the shrine — a spiritual gesture symbolizing respect for the region’s cultural heritage and a commitment to communal harmony.
Prominent attendees at the event included the Commanding Officer (CO) of the unit, Detachment Officer (DO) of Izmarg, former BDC Chairman of Kanzalwan Mukhtar Ahmad Lone, former Sarpanch Ghulam Mohideen Lone, along with other dignitaries, community elders, and civil society members.
To foster goodwill and reinforce its social outreach efforts, the Army also arranged community lunch for all attendees, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to the well-being of people in remote and strategically vital areas.
Speaking on the occasion, former BDC Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Lone expressed his appreciation:
“We are thankful to the Indian Army for organizing this event every year. It reflects their unwavering commitment to the local community and strengthens harmony in the region. Today’s large turnout, especially by students, shows the trust people have in the Army.”
Former Sarpanch Ghulam Mohideen Lone also lauded the Army’s initiative, stating: “The participation of the local population was remarkable. The Army has always stood by us, and we are truly grateful for their consistent support. Organizing this event every year reflects their dedication to peace and unity.”
Another local resident remarked that such gatherings not only bring the community together but also highlight the Army’s pivotal role in sustaining lives in remote border areas, instilling a sense of security and pride.
The annual event at Peer Baba Shrine continues to stand as a testament to the Indian Army’s enduring role in promoting peace, cooperation, and mutual respect through sincere and sustained civil-military engagement in the border belt of Kashmir.
