Indian Army Organises Volleyball Tournament in Boniyar to Promote Youth Engagement and Combat Drug Abuse

Baramulla, March 29: In a commendable initiative aimed at encouraging youth participation in positive activities, the Indian Army’s Dagger Division, Baramulla Brigade and Boniyar Regiment successfully organised a three-day Volleyball Tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Boniyar from March 27 to 29, 2026, under Operation Sadbhavana.

The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from young players representing Boniyar and nearby villages. The event created a vibrant atmosphere as multiple teams competed with energy and determination, showcasing impressive talent, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

One of the key highlights of the event was active youth engagement. Local participants channelled their energy into a constructive and competitive sporting platform, reinforcing the importance of discipline and physical fitness. The initiative also focused on talent identification, with volleyball kits distributed among all participating teams. Each kit included a volleyball, net and essential accessories, aimed at supporting grassroots sports development and ensuring continuity of such activities in remote areas close to the Line of Control.

The tournament strongly promoted values of teamwork, fair play and resilience among the youth. Alongside sports, the event also served as an effective platform for spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Through interaction and engagement, young participants were encouraged to adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle.

The event drew a large number of spectators, including local residents and community members, which further strengthened the bond between the Indian Army and the local population. The lively participation and support from the community added to the overall success of the tournament.
