Poonch, Feb 22: Nestled on the foothills of snow clad Pir Panjal Mountain ranges, Poonch also called Mini-Kashmir for its stunning beauty will host the first of its kind ‘Border Battle Hockey Cup’ from 20-27 Feb.
Organized by the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna, there will be 14 teams clashing their sticks in the fight to lift the ornate trophy.
An official spokesperson said Teams from outside the UT of J&K will not only add vibrancy to the tournament but provide a rare opportunity to play and experience the beauty of border town like Poonch. Delhi, Haryana & Punjab will have their boys and girls formed up in the line. Euphoric, the border city is brimming with celebration to witness the spoofing event on one of the few Astro Turf grounds in the UT.
The town has historically been very active in sports and proudly boasts of producing several national level players in disciplines as diverse as Taekwondo, Cricket, Hockey and Football. The event has received huge appreciation and support from the resident populace. The final is scheduled to be held on 27 Feb 2024.
In addition to the hockey matches, the event will include cultural programs and recreational activities for the residents and the spectators. “We are delighted to host the Border Battle Hockey Cup – 2024, which brings together youth from different states in a spirit of friendly competition, said one of the Army Organisers
