Jammu, Jan 24: From nurturing young minds and promoting environmental awareness to delivering swift humanitarian relief amid extreme weather, the Indian Army and NCC cadets carried out a series of impactful outreach initiatives across Jammu and Ramban, reflecting a seamless blend of education, national pride, social responsibility and disaster response.

The penultimate day of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) Camp unfolded in Jammu with a packed schedule aimed at learning, exploration and patriotism. Nearly 200 Senior Wing and Senior Division NCC cadets from the Rajasthan and Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh Directorates, accompanied by Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and PI staff, began the day with an educational visit to SKUAST Jammu.

At the Centre of Academic Excellence, cadets interacted with faculty members and gained first-hand exposure to modern agricultural practices, including hydroponics, beekeeping and mushroom cultivation. The visit highlighted the fusion of technology and traditional knowledge, reinforcing the importance of innovation in achieving sustainable development.

The learning journey continued at the Gharana Wetlands, where cadets witnessed the region’s rich biodiversity and observed migratory birds, particularly the Siberian Cranes. The visit underscored the need for environmental conservation and harmonious coexistence with nature.

Later, the cadets visited Border Outpost (BOP) Suchetgarh, where they paid tribute to the nation and its defenders. Standing at the international border evoked a deep sense of pride, gratitude and patriotism among the cadets, making the experience both emotional and inspiring.

The camp also featured focused indoor sessions, including a cyber security lecture that educated cadets on cyber crimes, criminal mindsets, emerging threats and preventive measures, stressing the importance of digital vigilance. Additionally, Capt Shrishti from 166 Military Hospital conducted an informative session on emergency first aid, CPR and burn management, emphasizing the responsibility of NCC cadets to be first responders and lifesavers.

Meanwhile, in Ramban, the Indian Army demonstrated its humanitarian commitment by conducting swift Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations along the NH-44 axis at Nachlana, following heavy snowfall and extreme weather conditions.

Troops from Nachlana Army Camp responded promptly to multiple distress calls as vehicles carrying civilians and tourists were stranded due to road blockages and sub-zero temperatures. Army personnel provided hot meals, drinking water, tea and immediate medical first aid, ensuring the safety of elderly persons, women and children.

In a parallel rescue effort, 32 martial arts cadets of the Warriors Taekwondo Academy, along with their coaches and parents, were stranded due to sudden snowfall. The Army safely evacuated them to the Nachlana Army Camp, where they were provided warm food, medical aid, clothing and shelter until weather conditions improved.

In another outreach initiative in Jammu, the Indian Army organised an awareness lecture on Women Empowerment and Self-Defence for Girl Children at Government Middle School, Bomal. The session, themed “Self Defence for Girl Children,” aimed to sensitise students about personal safety, situational awareness and confidence-building.

The lecture was delivered by Ms Rabia Sharma, journalist with ‘Satya Samachar’, who educated students on identifying unsafe situations, understanding safe and unsafe touch, basic self-defence techniques and seeking timely help. The interactive session saw participation from 29 girl students and three female teachers, and was widely appreciated for promoting self-reliance and empowerment.

Through these diverse initiatives—ranging from education and environmental awareness to disaster relief and women empowerment—the Indian Army and NCC reaffirmed their enduring commitment to nation-building, humanitarian service and community welfare, standing shoulder to shoulder with citizens in both learning and adversity.
