Jammu, Jan 26: The Indian Army marked the 77th Republic Day across multiple districts of Jammu & Kashmir with a series of community-centric initiatives that combined patriotic celebrations, outreach to remote schools and a renewed focus on education and national integration.
Republic Day celebrations were organised at government schools in Jhangar, Sher, Makri, Namb and Karali, as well as at Army bases across Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi, where soldiers engaged with students, teachers and local communities from far-flung and border areas. The events began with the hoisting of the National Tricolour and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by interactions aimed at instilling values of unity, discipline, courage and service to the nation.
Children participated enthusiastically through patriotic songs, poems and speeches, while teachers and Army personnel spoke on the significance of the Constitution, democratic values and citizens’ duties. Village elders and community members also joined the programmes, reflecting strong civil-military bonding and a shared commitment to national unity.
As part of its goodwill outreach, the Army distributed sweets, stationery items and refreshments among students, leaving a lasting impression on young minds and reinforcing the Army’s role in connecting with communities in remote and sensitive regions.
In Doda district, the Army complemented the Republic Day celebrations with a major educational initiative under Operation Sadbhavana, distributing computers and essential digital accessories to 10 government schools. The move aims to bridge the digital divide in areas facing infrastructural challenges and limited access to modern learning tools.
Officials said the introduction of digital resources would enhance students’ exposure to technology, improve digital literacy and support better academic outcomes, with many students accessing smart learning facilities for the first time.
Through these initiatives, the Indian Army reiterated its commitment not only to safeguarding the nation’s borders but also to contributing to community development, education and national integration. The Republic Day programmes concluded with collective pledges to uphold the ideals of the Republic and work towards a stronger, more inclusive India.
At Ramban, the Indian Army celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm at a snow-covered post in Teh Khari, District Ramban, reaffirming its strong bond with the local community. Despite the challenging weather conditions, children, students, teachers and local residents gathered to take part in the celebrations, making the occasion truly memorable.
The event commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the village Panch, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Army personnel addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of Republic Day and the values of democracy, unity and the Constitution of India.
The celebrations continued with vibrant cultural activities, where children showcased their talents through group songs and poem recitations. Volunteers delivered an insightful talk on the theme “India: Then and Now”, reflecting the nation’s journey of progress. Fun games and interactive activities added to the joy of the occasion. The initiative was widely appreciated by the local awam, strengthening the spirit of unity and national pride. (PIB)
