Jammu, Feb 11: The Indian Army on Tuesday carried forward its multi-dimensional outreach initiatives across Jammu & Kashmir, organising a series of programmes focused on education, youth engagement, women empowerment and welfare of veterans’ families.

At Sinthan Maidan in Kishtwar, under the aegis of Operation Sadbhavana, the Army initiated coaching classes for children from Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities. The initiative seeks to ensure academic continuity for migratory families who seasonally move to high-altitude grazing grounds where access to formal schooling remains limited.

The structured classes aim to strengthen learning outcomes and encourage youth participation in national development. Local residents expressed appreciation for the effort, describing it as a significant step toward educational inclusion in remote areas.

In Banihal, the Army organised a Snow Art Competition at Batu for children aged 6 to 15 under the theme “Winter Wonderland.” Participants crafted creative snow sculptures inspired by the Himalayan landscape. The event promoted imaginative expression and provided a positive recreational outlet during the winter season, while strengthening community bonds.

As part of its continued commitment to the welfare of soldiers’ families, the Army also conducted an interaction programme with Veer Naris and widows at Parat in Poonch. During the meeting, issues related to pensions, healthcare, children’s education and welfare entitlements were discussed in detail. Officials assured timely follow-up through appropriate channels. Four Veer Naris and eleven widows attended the programme, expressing gratitude for the sustained support extended by the Army.

In Rajouri’s Solki area, a lecture on “Career Opportunities for Women” was organised to promote awareness about educational pathways, vocational training, competitive examinations and entrepreneurship prospects. Participants received guidance on opportunities across sectors including defence services, healthcare, education, banking, information technology and self-employment. Emphasis was laid on higher education, digital literacy and skill upgradation, alongside information on government schemes and scholarships for women.

Meanwhile, under the ongoing Pir Panjal Winter Festival–2026, the Army conducted a Debate Competition at Army Goodwill School (AGS), Potha in Surankote, Poonch. Held across three categories — Classes VI–VIII, IX–XII and Undergraduate level — the event witnessed participation from 74 students. The competition aimed at fostering intellectual growth, critical thinking and effective communication skills among youth in the region.

These coordinated initiatives underscore the Indian Army’s continued efforts toward community development, youth empowerment and social welfare, reinforcing its outreach in remote and border areas of Jammu & Kashmir.
