Dras, June 13: In a stirring tribute to the valiant soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War, the Indian Army’s ‘Forever in Operations Division’ conducted a commemorative expedition to Tololing Peak on June 11, ahead of the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Flagged off from the iconic Kargil War Memorial in Dras, the expedition honoured the supreme sacrifices and indomitable courage of Indian soldiers who recaptured the strategic Tololing heights during Operation Vijay—a turning point in the Kargil conflict.
Official spokesperson said a team of 30 soldiers from various units that took part in the original battle scaled the rugged heights and hoisted the Tricolour at Tololing Top, rekindling the memories of heroism that shaped India’s modern military history.
In a show of jointmanship, the Indian Air Force also participated in the expedition, with officers and airmen joining their Army counterparts—symbolising the synergy and unity of the Indian Armed Forces.
As the nation prepares to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, the expedition served as a moving reminder of the bravery, patriotism, and selfless service of the Indian Armed Forces.
“This expedition is not just a physical journey; it is a pilgrimage of remembrance, reflection, and reverence,” an Army spokesperson said. “It seeks to inspire the next generation with the stories of courage that continue to define our national spirit.”
